Since the beginning of the 1970s anti-ship missiles have become the only aerial means of defence against surface vessels, after having progressively replaced medium and large calibre guns.
The weapon systems of the EXOCET family, developed by the company Aerospace Matra Missiles, form the products which occupy a dominant position in anti-ship warfare. They equip numerous navies throughout the world.
As far as the State is concerned, the EXOCET operation has been managed since 1974 by the DGA/SPMT.
