Innovation support
DGA encourages technological innovations which it wishes to see integrated into armament programmes.
Its policy in this area is based on three tools:
Advanced defence research, consisting of applied research and technology activities focused on precise topics. This means exploring the military potential of new technologies and providing the defence industry with the means to develop equipment that meets our present and future defence requirements, by ensuring access to the related technology,
Exploratory research and innovation (REI) is aimed at offering innovative companies (small and medium-sized businesses in particular) and public bodies easier access to defence research through design contracts. This initiative is built around:
- a clearly identified DGA entry point,
- clear project qualification criteria,
- an emphasis on contract-based developments.
Under the protocol signed on 21 March 2002, the DGA/OSEO INNOVATION Partnership supports innovation by advancing funds of up to 50% of the amount of the programmes proposed. These funds are reimbursed if the programme is successful.
