TASK

The A400M programme is intended to renew the transport capacity of the Air Force from 2007 onwards. The new geostrategic context necessitates the ability to transport, by national capabilities, heavy and bulky material to theatres a long way from our national borders. The A400M will have the following general characteristics:

  Ability to transport or parachute different types of load during tactical and logistical missions (passengers / parachutists or pallets / containers / platforms or vehicular equipment or specific forces material) operating from normal and temporary airfields in unfavourable weather conditions and in a hostile environment,
  ability to refuel and be provide refuelling in flight,
  loading, unloading operations and the transport of material will conform with existing capabilities,
  capability for carrying out evacuation for medical reasons.
