The aim of the Falcon 50 SURMAR programme is to provide the French Navy with a land-based aircraft to replace the “Atlantique” (ATL2) maritime patrol aircraft in their maritime surveillance and public service roles around mainland France and its overseas territories.
Derived from the three-engined Falcon 50 EX business aircraft (of which more than 250 have been sold across the world), the Falco-50 SURMAR is a navalized version that has been modified to meet the maritime surveillance role. These modifications include:
Changes to create openings for observation ports and the introduction of a hatch for the launch of survival equipment,
The fitting, amongst other items, of an Ocean Master 100 maritime surveillance radar and a FLIR thermal camera.
The Falcon 50 SURMAR will be responsible for ensuring the security of our maritime approaches, and for search and rescue missions in accordance with public service tasking and international agreements.
Ultimately, the French Navy will have four Falcon 50 SURMAR.
