Roland is a Franco-German short-range air defence system developed by Euromissile. It is intended for the defence of mobile units as well as strategic sites against aircraft (fixed or rotary wing) operating at very low or medium altitude.
The Roland system may be fitted to various armoured chassis or installed on an air-transportable cabin, which can be mounted on a trailer or a truck for mobility. It has been in service wince 1977 and is in use in around ten countries.
The Roland weapon system will be retired from active service at the summer 2008.
