Intellectual property

Intellectual property is managed within the DGA by the Intellectual Property Office (BPI). The BPI is responsible for :

  submitting proposals for DGA policy relating to intellectual property,
  supervising application of this policy,
  ensuring security classification for inventions of interest to the Ministry of Defence, and for which patent applications have been made.

The BPI protects the rights of the Ministry of Defence by exercising the latter’s prerogatives relating to the security classification of patents, applying its expertise in the area of legal agreements and actions, and managing free patent licences resulting from contracts.

The BPI also manages industrial property rights attaching to inventions made by Ministry of Defence staff inventors, and drafts and registers the corresponding patent applications.
