The ERYX weapon system is a short-range anti-tank missile. It was developped by Aérospatiale (became Aérospatiale Matra Missiles and then MBDA France) to satisfy ground army needs. It has been evaluated within the framework of a Franco-Canadian partnership, and equiped infantry sections of French ground army since 1994.
ERYX is a pioneer of the third generation of missiles and it has been the initiator of innovative technologies that have been taken up by many other missiles :
Force control for manoeuvrability,
Tandem charges to defeat reactive armour,
Low speed ejection to enable firing in enclosed spaces or in urban combat,
Pulsed beacon as an anti-jamming measure.
Since 1994, a total of 48,500 ERYX missiles and 3,200 fire units have been sold to seven nations.
