The EFA (Engin de Franchissement de l’Avant -Front Self Propelled Ferry) forms part of the Leclerc tank environment, and has been in service with the engineer regiment of the French Army since 1993.
EFA, which is designed for use in the combat zone, enables rapid crossing of water gaps by all compatible battlefield vehicles.
It can be used as a ferry or as a bridge and can be brought into action very quickly even in strong currents or where the banks are high. It can also provide a crossing facility over water obstacles greater than 25 m wide for vehicles up to MLC 70 class.
Training for road and navigationoperation is provided using two simulators installed at the engineer school in Angers, and operating and maintenance instruction is provided using computer based training (CBT).
