CL 289 is an aerodynes remote-controlled of air recognition system of the second generation in service in the French army forces since 1993.
It makes it possible to acquire and processe IR or photographic images during missions following pre-programmed flights with a semi-ground following mode, at subsonic speeds, up to 400 km from its launching point.
The CL289 system was deployed on several occasions at the time which it showed its operational capacities (monitoring of the Dayton agreements in 1996, Kosovo conflict in 1998...).
This system implemented by the French Army has been just prolonged up to 2011.
