A long range tactical weapon carried and fired by the Mirage 2000-D, the Apache missile has the role of neutralising highly defended runways from a safe distance.
It constitutes the base from which a version adapted to hardened infrastructures destruction was developed, the Scalp-EG, initiated in 1997.
100 anti-runway Apache missiles have been supplied to the French Air Force, following a multi-annual order placed in October 1997. This weapons system is operational since 2002.
The "Apache" programme is managed by "Nuclear and Missile programme department" of the "Weapon Systems Service" of DGA (DGA/DSA/SPNuM).
