The AMX 10 RC is a reconnaissance vehicle fitted with a 105 mm gun that offers a high degree of mobility both on and off the road; it provides protection against light infantry weapons and artillery shell fragments and can operate in a contaminated atmosphere.

It can undertake any reconnaissance or security task in either a conventional or nuclear environment involving rapid long-range movement before going into action. It is the fire support vehicle for reconnaissance units and armoured regiments. 337 AMX 10 RC have been delivered to the French Army.

An upgrade programme has been initiated to keep the AMX 10 RC in operational service until the arrival of the EBRC (Engin Blindé à Roues de Contact - a wheeled armoured reconaissance vehicle), which is due between 2015-2020. This will address, amongst other aspects:

  Integration of command and communication equipment compatible with the digitised battle field.
  Improved mobility.
  Improved survivability.
  Upgrading the AMX 10 RC to include all modifications under investigation.
